Raw Linseed oil is heated and air is blown to produce Double Boiled Linseed Oil. Heating the oil causes it to polymerize and oxidize, effectively making it thicker and shortening its drying time. It dries more completely and quickly and forms a film on the surface. Double Boiled Linseed oil is a dark amber coloured oil having a distinctively sharp smell. This oil is mainly used indoors. It is very water resistant, and also a rust inhibitor. It has a high viscosity when compared to Raw Linseed oil.

The oil has a pale clear colour and extremely high viscosity. It produces a tough, enamel-like, none-yellowing film. Under these conditions, the polyunsaturated fatty esters convert to conjugated dienes, leading to cross linking. The product, which is highly viscous, gives highly uniform coatings that "dry" to more elastic coatings than linseed oil itself. The oil has a pale clear colour and extremely high viscosity. • Extracted from the seed of the flax plant, this oil is filtered and then “washed” with alkaline water to remove acid impurities. The resulting product is golden, rich & sweet-smelling oil that is composed primarily of linolenic acid. Alkali Refined Linseed Oil is demanded for furniture finish, oil paints, wood floors and others.
• It is extensively used for the production of oil modified polyester resins (i.e. alkyd resins), stand oils, printing varnishes, maleate and urethane oils in the synthetic varnish-paints-and printing colour industry. It also finds application as a binder in pigment pastes. The presence of linolenic acid with its ability to polymerize readily in the presence of metallic driers such as cobalt or manganese is of great value to ink-makers.
